The Sunday Political Talk Shows For December - 13 - 2008



ABC NEWS / This Week with George Stephanopoulos: This week's headliner will be U.S. Senator and 2008 Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain (R - AZ) in his first news interview since the election. Then, the usual weekly roundtable featuring Gwen Ifill of PBS' Washington Week and The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Paul Krugman of The New York Times, Gerald Seib of the Wall Street Journal, and conservative columnist George Will of the Washington Post Writers Group.

CBS NEWS / Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer: Appearing this week: U.S. Senators Carl Levin (D - MI), Senate Banking Committee members Bob Corker (R - TN) and Sherrod Brown (D - OH) will discuss the auto makers' deal gone sour. Also, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Michael Eric Dyson of Georgetown University.

CABLE NEWS NETWORK / Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer: As of Friday evening, CNN had not announced the guests or topics for this week's broadcast.

FOX NEWS / Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace: U.S. Senators Bob Corker (R - TN) and Debbie Stabenow (D - MI) will talk about the Big Three automakers' options after their bailout package failed a Senate vote. Then, Illinois Republican House Leader Tom Cross will chat about the possibilities of filling President-elect Obama's U.S. Senate seat in the face of the state's political scandal. Finally, the usual roundtable discussing various issues of the day, including Bill Kristol, co-founder of The Weekly Standard, along with Juan Williams and Mara Liasson of National Public Radio

NBC NEWS / Meet the Press: David Gregory takes the helm as the programme's new moderator. This week, on to discuss the Illinois corruption scandal will be state Lieutenant Governor Patt Quinn and Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Then, insights and analysis on the Obama transition and results from the new NBC Poll with network Political Director Chuck Todd and Mary A. Mitchell of the Chicago Sun-Times. Finally, a look at the continuing economic crisis with Governor Jennifer Granholm (D - MI) and Former Governor Mitt Romney (R - MA), along with three top business voices -- Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, Wal-Mart President & CEO H. Lee Scott, Jr., and Google CEO/Co-Founder Eric Schmidt.

SYNDICATED / The Chris Matthews Show: The questions for discussion: How bit is President-elect Obama's mandate for change? And will the comedy shows be able to find humour in the new chief executive? Hear from his Chief of Staff and (for now still) Congressman Rahm Emanuel (D - IL). This weekend's extended roundtable will consist of Fareed Zakaria of Newsweek, Atlanta Journal Constitution Editorial Page Editor Cynthia Tucker, David Gergen of Harvard University, and conservative columnist George Will of the Washington Post Writers' Group.

CBS NEWS / Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer: Obama Transition Chief of Staff and Congressman Rahm Emanuel (D - IL) will discuss the coming administration, followed by a postmortem of the election featuring John F. Harris of Politico and David Brooks of the New York Times and The Weekly Standard.
