GOP Senators Boycott Torture Probe

Republicans on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence said Friday that they will no longer participate in an investigation into the Bush administration's interrogation policies. Last month, Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. appointed a prosecutor to review allegations of detainee abuse by CIA operatives.

Commander: 'Time is Right' for Marines to Leave Iraq

The top Marine commander said Friday that his forces already had begun pulling equipment out of Iraq and that nearly all of his troops could be out in as little as six months. "The time is right for the Marines to leave Iraq," said Gen. James Conway.

Senate Repubs Fear Torture Prosecutions

Key Republicans delayed a vote on Wednesday on the confirmation of attorney general nominee Eric Holder, concerned that he views Bush administration interrogation practices as torture. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he wanted to know more after Holder sidestepped questions about whether he intends to prosecute officials who condoned or carried out the interrogations. "He's been very ambiguous," Cornyn told reporters. "We need more clarification."
