"In a race watched closely by the nation as a referendum on the war in Iraq, early returns show Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman with 46 percent of votes to Democratic Senate nominee Ned Lamont's 44 percent, with 84 precincts reporting, the Associated Press reports. Republican Alan Schlesinger trailed with 9 percent.
Based on those results and exit polling, the Associated Press has declared Lieberman the likely winner."
