Lou Dobbs Slams Bush On "Signing Statements"

Lou Dobbs Slams Bush On "Signing Statements"

I wonder how long they will allow this to keep happening; by "they," I'm referring to Congress.

By their actions, Bush and Co. in the White House are saying that they can selectively choose which laws and restrictions to follow. In more basic terms, this is a gross violating of the very Constitution the president swore on the Bible to uphold, and it's also a very easy to prove, impeachable offense.

Lou Dobbs took a critical look at President Bush's use of signing statements during tonight's broadcast. An American Bar Association task force has determined that the president's use of signing statements are a violation of the Constitution. Signing statements are similar to a line-item veto which the Supreme Court said was unconstitutional.

Dobbs quotes the ABA, "This is an outrage being perpetrated against the Constitution of the United States."

We can put this in perspective for a second or two:

Past presidents combined, all 42 have signed a total of 600.

President George Bush up to this point -- 800.

He is using the signing statements as a line item veto even though such vetos have been ruled unconstitutional.
