It never stops, does it?
Generally, Tom, the staff should stay behind when you resign.
A report by the Lone Star Project, a Texas organization, showed that DeLay’s former Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Flynn sent an e-mail a week after the Congressman resigned from office. The e-mail outlines a strategy and message to deal with media inquiries regarding the Texas Democratic Party’s lawsuit challenging Republican efforts to declare DeLay ineligible and replace him on the ballot. The e-mail was sent to former DeLay Press Secretary Shannon Flaherty and others on June 15, 2006, six days after DeLay's June 9 resignation.
The Lone Star Project claims that according to House rules, Flynn and Flaherty as staff of a resigned Member of Congress are "to be supervised by the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives. As government employees they are specifically prohibited from engaging in political activity." They also cite a 2004 memorandum to Members of Congress showing that, "Any campaign work done by staff members must be done outside the congressional office, on their own time, and without using any congressional office resources...."
The Lone Star Project, according to its website, "provides fact based political and legislative analysis designed to help individuals, organizations and the press see beyond the rhetoric and misinformation typically provided by the current Republican State Leadership in Texas and Texas Republicans in Washington." It denies any links to the Democratic Party.
Well, now call me jaded, but I doubt they have no ties to the Democratic Party. We all know how the world of politics works.
