Pharmaceutical firms set Medicare drug prices...say that again?

Souce CNN

What's good for the "big money" drug companies is a raw deal for taxpayers or those who depend on Medicare plans for their prescriptions.

Congress gave a huge "golden egg" to the drug companies, eliminating the purchasing power the government has and allowing drug companies to set the prices of the drugs in the plan.
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (AP) -- Republicans in Congress put the pharmaceutical industry in charge when they passed the Medicare prescription drug plan, New Mexico's attorney general said Saturday.

"Big corporations...routinely use their purchasing power to drive down prices for consumers. But the Republican Congress banned our government from doing the same" by specifically prohibiting it under the Medicare plan from negotiating with drug companies for lower prices, Patricia Madrid said in the Democrats' weekly radio address.

"And rather than allowing Medicare to provide prescription drugs directly to seniors, the Republican Congress invited the health insurance industry into the process and wrote a needlessly complicated law that has confused millions of seniors and their caregivers," she said.

You have to love the GOP-dominated Congress in this country. They pander and push for the elderly vote during an election cycle, and then let these same voters wither and die under a medicare reform bill that is an utterly failure.

Many ederly are often left feeling confused, and they are unabled to fill prescriptions under a bill that favored a huge industry and failed the very seniors it was designed to help.

I wonder who on the Hill will grow a set and scrap this terrible, deadly, and flawed legislation?
