Well, apparently, "gub'ment" officials in DC are not quite certain on what should be done with FEMA.
Two key lawmakers said the agency was broken and recommended structural changes, with one suggesting FEMA be removed from the Department of Homeland Security umbrella and another saying the agency should be disbanded and rebuilt within DHS.
Rep. Thomas Davis, R-Virginia, told ABC's "This Week" he believes FEMA needs to be a Cabinet-level organization.
Chertoff insists that the agency has made important changes to better prepare for future disasters, and he's warning against changes when hurricane season just a few months away.
Everyone is busy pointing fingers right now. Mike Brown plays the blame game with everyone in Washington but himself. Now, you never know--he may have a point. FEMA isn't the first program to be tied down by red tape, and it certainly won't be the last. However, how much trust do you place in a president who could only remark, "You're doing a heckuva job, Brownie," when people were homeless, dying, or dead during our country's worst disaster ever? And you want FEMA answering to him?
I admit that I don't know how to fix FEMA, but I'm having trouble believing that Washington can fix it.
