Bush to veto efforts to block port contract...what is he thinking?

Our "wonderful" president again shows that friends of the family and business interests outweigh our need for national security everyday.

WASHINGTON -- In the face of growing Republican opposition, President Bush today threatened to veto any congressional effort to block a deal that will allow an Arab company to take over the management of six major U.S. seaports, saying that any attempt to scuttle the arrangement would send "a terrible signal to friends around the world."

The president's unusually heated remarks appeared designed to head off a groundswell of opposition to the deal, including from House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, two usually reliable White House allies

Let's break this deal down:

*The Bush Administration tries to broker a secret deal from control of our nation's biggest ports to a company based in a country with major-league ties to terrorism.

*Someone leaks this story during the rapid rubberstamping process going through the Department of Homeland Security.

*News picks up the story and does a decent job for once.

*Citizens are outraged, and people on both sides of the aisle in Congress are outraged.

*9/11 families get the fun and joy of revisiting that frightful day in their minds in anger over this news.

*Bush's response is pretty expected, as any patriarch's would be--I will do this deal when and however I please, and the voice of reason just doesn't matter.

The GOP, the party of national security and keeping the homeland safe?

Funny thing is that as hard as I try, I just can't make that connection right now.
