A California peak called Negrohead Mountain is officially renamed in honour of John Ballard, a a blacksmith and former slave who settled there in 1869. This is the second name change. The mountain was called Niggerhead Mountain until the 1960s.
******Wow, California, you are really behind the times.
This peak should have been renamed a long time ago and it's a disgrace that the name stayed as long as it did.
Racially, things are changing here in America but things like this don't help that change along.******
