Dan Quayle Cuts Out Of Mellencamp Concert

Walking tall, and out

Apparently, Mr. "Potatoe" Head became offended after John Mellencamp dedicated a song to all the people affected by the Bush Administration.

Dan Quayle took time out from participating in the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Stateline, Nev., on Friday to attend John Mellencamp's concert only to run into a political statement.

He then made a statement of his own by walking out during Mellencamp's rendition of "Walk Tall." Before launching into the song, Mellencamp told the Harveys casino crowd, in effect, that it was dedicated to everyone hurt by policies of the current Bush administration.

Quayle, who served as vice president for President Bush's father in 1989-93 walked out of the venue before Mellencamp finished the song.

Quayle said through a publicist: "Well, I think Mellencamp's performance was not very good to begin with, and the comment put it over the top."

He couldn't just come out and say that he had a difference of opinion? Instead, he hides behind: "Ah, he just sucked today."

Now if he's really such a fan of Mellencamp (as a lot of native Hoosiers are), where in the hell was he during the '80s? Rain on the Scarecrow was a nice little poke at the despair Midwestern farmers were facing thanks to Reagan and Papa Bush before Farm Aid got started. All this time, and he didn't realize that Mellencamp isn't a good ol' Indiana Republican?

In Dan's case, I suppose the saying, "Wisdom comes with age," is nonapplicable.
