You can really tell from watching the video and reading the transcripts that she is well-schooled in the GOP game of double-talking and again fails to take a stand in the arena of gay rights and the current "gay marriage ban" going through Congress.
Don't worry, Mary, just speak the truth and don't wear orange around Daddy at home. You should be OK.
WMP here, QT here.
On Gay rights: Mary hopes that all Americans would be engaged in these issues and David explained:
David: Most Americans are engaged and are trying to get the attention of the administration who can actually do something about it. Who seemingly perhaps are not engaged. Is that a fair assessment or am I being nuts here?
Mary: I think you might be being nuts...
David tried to elicit a definitive response about how she felt about the Republicans demonizing gays to advance their agenda and win the '04 election, but all one has to do is read her book.
David: Did you talk to your father about it?
Mary: We had many conversations about different issues.
----
Mary: Well, actually I talk about it in the book...
David: Maybe that's the point. Maybe, I'm wondering if people would rather you had talked about it during the campaign as opposed to after the campaigns waiting to put it in a book. Would it have been more effective to talk about it then?
Mary: I honestly don't think it would have...
David: Do they resent you taking the opportunity to make money selling books now, where as before there was something larger to have accomplished?
Mary: I am very hesitant to speak on behalf of anybody. I'm sure there are people who feel that way and I know there are other people who don't feel that way...
At least she looks like a female for once, so it's a start.
By her silence and failure to take a stand, she is indirectly letting down millions of gay people in the U.S. who constantly are attacked by religious zealots and politicians from the far right side of the GOP, trying to score cheap political points.
I guess I'm most disappointed in Mary's lack of speaking points given the direct pipeline to the president she has through her father.
It's so nice to see her sell her soul in return for her loyalty to Daddy Dick and the Republican Party.
It's kind of sad, really, when you think about it for a minute or two. The very people she protects would stab her in the back in a minute to get more loyal, fanatical fundie voters.
Again, I ask, why are you defending and staying loyal to the GOP again, Mary?
