Apparently, C-Span went around asking various websites running the video, like iFilm and YouTube, to remove the it. Now before you put on your tin foil hats and start singing tunes of conspiracy even though it's plausible, the reason behind the takedown is actually everyone's favorite tech issue: copyrighted material. That's right--the video is not public domain because C-Span's a privately-owned network, not government-owned like a lot of people seem to have believed.

But never fear, because Google had been in talks with C-Span to broadcast the entire dinner, along with just the Colbert roast, at Google Video.
