Guantanamo Bay Hunger Strike Spreads.

Source: CBS News

The hunger strike in the Guantanamo Bay has grown from 3 to 75 inmates.

The inmates simply want a "fair trial". Many inmates have been held for up to four and a half years with no end in sight.

I ask the same question, why aren't these guys being given due process and treated decently under the Geneva Convention?

If the Bush administration is going to keep this fake "war on terror" going, then these guys should be "prisoners of war" and be given certain legal and humanitarian rights.

The number of Guantanamo Bay detainees participating in a hunger strike has ballooned from three to around 75, the U.S. military said Monday, revealing growing defiance among prisoners held for up to 4 1/2 years with no end in sight.

Navy Cmdr. Robert Durand called the hunger strike at the U.S. naval base in southeastern Cuba an "attention-getting" tactic to step up pressure for the inmates' release and said it might be related to a May 18 clash between detainees and guards that injured six prisoners.

Democracy? What democracy? Things like Guantanamo Bay smell more like a communist regime than any democracy I know of. Holding people without a fair trial is the act of a oppressive tyrant, not the leader of a thriving democratic nation.
