Associated Press Caught Deleting Line In News Story, Makes Story More Biased Against Senator Reid.

Source: Media Matters

First, John Soloman at the AP is playing partisan politics with his feed story of Democratic Leader Harry Reid (NV) attending three Las Vegas boxing matches as the guest of the Nevada Athletic Commission, and now we have an edit of the same article he posted removing the line that proves that Harry Reid isn't dishonest, and that he was pushing legislation the Nevada boxing folks didn't like.

Original AP story:

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid accepted free ringside tickets from the Nevada Athletic Commission to three professional boxing matches while that state agency was trying to influence him on federal regulation of boxing.

Reid took the free seats for Las Vegas fights between 2003 and 2005 as he was pressing legislation to increase government oversight of the sport, including the creation of a federal boxing commission that Nevada's agency feared might usurp its authority.

And the new, Fox-News-style edit removing the sentence proving Reid wasn't dishonest:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, who has criticized Republican ethics, accepted free ringside tickets to three professional boxing matches from Nevada officials who were trying to influence his federal legislation regulating the sport.

Reid, D-Nev., took the free seats for Las Vegas fights between 2003 and 2005 from the Nevada Athletic Commission as he pressed legislation to increase federal oversight of boxing, including the creation of a government commission.

It's nice to see the AP has lost all credibility and is now in the same league as Fox News and the Weekly Standard. This seems to be a deliberate attack by the AP to smear a sitting U.S. Senator.

I do agree with many in the blogoshere that the AP needs to offer a retraction and apology to Senator Reid. Then a bit of editor oversight and journalistic principles would be nice coming from the folks at the AP in the near future.
