Unleashing Hell.

Source: The Washington Post

The Washington Post has an interesting article that talks about what could happen after an attack on Iran by the U.S.. Obviously, they wouldn't be happy about being attacked, and they would retaliate. And if you think Iraq is hopeless now...ha, just wait until a pissed-off Iran comes into the picture.

As tensions increase between the United States and Iran, U.S. intelligence and terrorism experts say they believe Iran would respond to U.S. military strikes on its nuclear sites by deploying its intelligence operatives and Hezbollah teams to carry out terrorist attacks worldwide.

Iran would mount attacks against U.S. targets inside Iraq, where Iranian intelligence agents are already plentiful, predicted these experts. There is also a growing consensus that Iran's agents would target civilians in the United States, Europe and elsewhere, they said.

U.S. officials would not discuss what evidence they have indicating Iran would undertake terrorist action, but the matter "is consuming a lot of time" throughout the U.S. intelligence apparatus, one senior official said. "It's a huge issue," another said.

The war in Iraq is small potatoes right now, compared to Iran entering and unleashing hell upon us.

Interesting News From South Dakota.

Source: MSNBC

Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota will offer abortions, but there's a catch--abortions can only be performed on Native American women by Native American doctors.

No one can change it (for the moment, as long as Roe vs. Wade stands) because--surprise, surprise--reservations follow federal law, not state law.

So Native Americans are covered, but sadly, other women will still have to either go to another state that allows abortions or resort to "back alley" abortions with a coat hanger.

Sweeping For Change.

The Return Of The "Minutemen".

AP via Yahoo News

The Minuteman have returned, and this time, they are on border control.

Volunteers are dragging out their lawn chairs, binoculars, and cell phones in hopes of "raising awareness" about the border problem. I bet some of the guys were disappointed that they didn't get to bring their guns, too.

A year after their first watch-and-report operation along the border in southeastern Arizona, members of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps embarked on a much larger effort in this state's busy migrant-smuggling corridor.

"I'm concerned about what's not being done by the government -- hasn't been done for ages, apparently," said J. Glenn Sorensen, a retired school administrator now living in Flagstaff.

Sorensen, who was not involved last year, said he thinks the organization has already accomplished part of its purpose, "to draw national attention to an insecure border. I don't think anybody wants to close the border -- I certainly don't. Basically, I think they need to be secure."

No one in the group had any illusions about their campaign's effectiveness, since it targets a relatively short section of the border for just a month. However, it comes at a time when Congress is debating changes to federal immigration laws, which have drawn supporters of legitimizing illegal immigrants to demonstrations across the country.

"This is like sticking a finger in the dike," said Ken Raymond, a retired electrical engineer and airplane mechanic from Tucson.

Funniest statement I've ever read!

Some immigrants were apprehended. Minutemen volunteers in New Mexico alerted the Border Patrol to a group of immigrants Saturday.

"We hadn't been on the line more than 30 minutes when we spotted our first group of seven," said Bob Wright, director of the state's Minuteman group.

For some reason, I keep getting images of this old episode of Cops with this neighborhood militia who was so damn proud that they'd caught a criminal, but the "criminal" turned out to be a guy who lived in the neighborhood who was having a seizure because he was without his medication. Huh.

And this...just wow.

Don Goldwater, a Republican candidate for Arizona governor, said he had a message for President Bush.

"Build us that wall -- now!" Goldwater said, referring to a measure that would add 700 miles of fences along the border. He promised that if elected, he would put illegal immigrants in a tent city on the border and use their labor to build the wall. Goldwater is a nephew of the late Sen. Barry Goldwater.

Yikes.

I hope Washington decides...whatever in the hell they are going to decide soon because the situation is getting really nasty.

Texas Professor Says We're Doomed...What Else Is New?

Sources: The Seguin Gazette and The Drudge Report

Eric Pianka says that mankind is doomed.

Or maybe he's saying he wants us all to be doomed.

Or maybe it's both.

University of Texas professor says the Earth would be better off with 90 percent of the human population dead.

"Every one of you who gets to survive has to bury nine," Eric Pianka cautioned students and guests at St. Edward's University on Friday. Pianka's words are part of what he calls his "doomsday talk" -- a 45-minute presentation outlining humanity's ecological misdeeds and Pianka's predictions about how nature, or perhaps humans themselves, will exterminate all but a fraction of civilization.

Though his statements are admittedly bold, he's not without abundant advocates. But what may set this revered biologist apart from other doomsday soothsayers is this: Humanity's collapse is a notion he embraces.

Yeah, there's always a "nut" in every group. While I don't promote genocide, and I don't laugh every time someone dies, what the man is saying does make sense. After all, look what happened to the dinosaurs. That is, if you believe they existed and weren't a tool of the devil.

One day, possibly soon, we will face extinction.

Indeed, his words deal, very literally, on a life-and-death scale, yet he smiles and jokes candidly throughout the lecture. Disseminating a message many would call morbid, Pianka's warnings are centered upon awareness rather than fear.

So what's at the heart of Pianka's claim?

6.5 billion humans is too many.

In his estimation, "We've grown fat, apathetic and miserable," all the while leaving the planet parched.

The solution?

A 90 percent reduction.

That's 5.8 billion lives -- lives he says are turning the planet into "fat, human biomass." He points to an 85 percent swell in the population during the last 25 years and insists civilization is on the brink of its downfall -- likely at the hand of widespread disease.

"[Disease] will control the scourge of humanity," Pianka said. "We're looking forward to a huge collapse."

Pianka, a 38-year UT educator, maintains he's not campaigning for genocide. He likens mankind's story to an unbridled party on a luxury cruise liner. The fun's going strong on the upper deck, he says. But as crowds blindly absorb the festivities, many fail to notice the ship is sinking.

"The biggest enemy we face is anthropocentrism," he said, describing the belief system in which humans are the central element of the universe. "This is that common attitude that everything on this Earth was put here for [human] use."

To Pianka, a human life is no more valuable than any other -- a lizard, a bison, a rhino. And as humans reproduce, the demand for resources like food, water and energy becomes more than the Earth can sustain, he says.

Ken Wilkins, a Baylor University biology professor and associate dean, agrees the inevitability of a crashing point is unarguable.

"The human population is growing," he said. "We will see a point when we reach the carrying capacity -- there aren't enough resources."

But resources aren't the only threat, Pianka says. It's the Ebola virus he deems most capable of wide scale decimation.

"Humans are so dense (in population) that they constitute a perfect substrate for an epidemic," he says.

He contends Ebola is merely an evolutionary step away from escaping the confines of Africa. And should an outbreak occur, Pianka assuredly says humanity will quickly come to a "grinding halt."

Of course, he has his critics, as do all "doomsayers". One argues that "young minds with a thirst for knowledge may develop into enthusiastic supporters of a deadly disease, advocating the fall of humanity."

I doubt that hordes of students will start lining up to chant, "Death to all! Go Ebola!" However, the guy's message is creepy. We don't like to think of millions dying in order to preserve humanity.

But one day, it may come to that.

Two Cartoons You Need To See.

Neal Boortz Predicts Media Matters Will Post About His McKinney Comments.

Source: Media Matters

And he's right. What an idiot.

First, he thinks he has the right to talk about anyone's hair because he's bald? Second, he really wasn't just talking about McKinney's hair; he mentioned that she looked like a welfare drag queen.

Obviously, it's just a case of Boortz attention-whoring, and he succeeded.

From the March 31 broadcast of Cox Radio Syndication's The Neal Boortz Show:

BOORTZ: OK. Now, I'm going to repeat something that I said a little bit earlier. I've been enduring jokes about my lack of hair for years, so I am absolutely privileged and entitled. This is not white privilege, this is bald privilege. I am privileged and entitled to say anything I want about anybody else's hairdo.

I saw Cynthia McKinney's hairdo yesterday -- saw it on TV. I don't blame that cop for stopping her. It looked like a welfare drag queen was trying to sneak into the Longworth House Office Building. That hairdo is ghetto trash. I don't blame them for stopping her. Now, let's see if Media Matters will pick up on that one. "Boortz calls McKinney welfare drag queen." [laughs] So, well, that's why I do things like that, just to give them something to write about.

Congrats, Boortz. You are a drama queen.

Congress Chokes On Ethics Reform.

John Green Gets Suspended Over "Bush-Bashing" Email.

Source: Washington Post

You knew it was coming. ABC would have to suspend Green over the "bad" email to please someone. Heaven forbid if we have any sort of privacy in anything we do.

ABC News suspended the executive producer of the weekend edition of "Good Morning America" yesterday over a pair of leaked e-mails in which he used inflammatory language to slam President Bush and Madeleine Albright.

John Green, whose unpaid suspension will last one month, apologized to the White House in a call to communications director Nicolle Wallace, while two ABC executives called the former secretary of state to apologize.

"No one is sorrier than John for the embarrassment that these albeit private e-mails caused to his colleagues and to the people who were the subjects of those comments," said ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider. "John would be the first to say this has been a real lesson to him. John is abjectly sorry for all the comments that have come to light, and that's appropriate."

Well, I guess he was also suspended for a flap he made about Madeleine Albright in a second email that surfaced the other day.

The second leaked e-mail surfaced Thursday on the New York Post's gossipy Page Six. In that note, Green wrote that Albright should not be booked on the show because "Albright has Jew shame."

Albright, who was raised as a Roman Catholic, acknowledged her Jewish heritage in 1997 after it was discovered by Washington Post reporter Michael Dobbs in the course of researching a book.

Green wrote in that note that "she hates us anyway because she says we promised her five minutes and only gave her two...I do not like her." An ABC insider said Green was reacting to a heated dispute between Albright and a network producer.

You know..."Jew shame" or not, "Bush makes me sick" or not...what is said in an email to another person is supposed to be private. As long as you aren't planning a person's death. Or so I thought.

Then again, these days, nothing stays private for long thanks to the internet.

Wesley Clark: We Need A New Plan.

AP via Yahoo News

Clark says that Bush is leading us on the "path to nowhere" because of his misguided moves. (Well, the White House can't deny that...after all, Condi said so herself just the other day that the U.S. has made tons of errors in this war.)

The retired Army general and NATO military commander argued in the Democrats' weekly radio address that the United States needs a new plan to win the war on terror after failing to find Sept. 11 terror mastermind Osama bin Laden, fighting an unnecessary war in Iraq and stumbling in halting weapons proliferation in North Korea and Iran.

The administration "has shown tragic incompetence in everything from nation building in Iraq to disaster relief in Louisiana," he said. "Let's face it: We're not going to win the war on terror unless we start making more friends and fewer enemies in the world, and we're not going to be able to protect the American people without a new strategy."

He's right. Remember the old saying: you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

If you want to win a war, you have to make people want to come to your side because they believe in your cause. Forcing them to take your side by chanting, "You're for us or against us," will not work. Sorry, but the Rambo "I'll do it on my own" crap doesn't work either in today's world. We can't survive by being isolationistic. That's not how progress works. Everyone has to work together.

OK, so that may make me sound like some "neo-hippy," but some of that "hippy crap" holds truths.

Let A Future Student Figure It Out.

"Chuckie" Taylor, Jr., Arrested For Passport Fraud In Miami.

Source: AP via Yahoo News

The son of former Liberian warlord, Charles Taylor, was arrested in Miami earlier. He was charged with passport fraud. He also goes by the name Charles McArthur Emmanuel.

Charles "Chuckie" Taylor Jr. was arrested at Miami International Airport on Thursday night after flying in from Trinidad, and was accused of lying about his father's identity in a U.S. passport application.

Emmanuel, 29, who was in charge of presidential security when his father ran Liberia, made an initial appearance in a Miami magistrates court on Friday, said Barbara Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Miami.

Looks like son will be meeting up with Daddy in court soon?

The U.S. criminal complaint against his son, Emmanuel, a U.S. citizen because he was born in the United States, said he did not identify Taylor as his father when he sought a new U.S. passport at the U.S. consulate in Trinidad and Tobago's capital, Port of Spain, this month.

The complaint says Emmanuel's mother, Bernice Yolanda Emmanuel, had told investigators that he joined his father in Western Africa before 1997 and lived in Liberia during Taylor's presidency up to 2003.

"According to her, Taylor appointed Emmanuel the head of Liberia's Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU)," it said, adding that the ATU was in charge of Taylor's personal security.

Emmanuel is also included on a U.N. list of people banned from traveling to Liberia, but is listed under his other name, Charles "Chuckie" Taylor Jr., according to the complaint.

He is expected to make another court appearance next week.
