More News About The Middle East

Israel Resolved to Disarm Hezbollah

This is the most interesting part of the article:

Shimon Peres, the dovish Nobel peace laureate, vowed Israel would clear southern Lebanon of Hezbollah militia and their weapons.

Peres said "we will not permit Hezbollah to return to south Lebanon" to attack Israel. Nor would Israel suspend its bombardment of Hezbollah weapons arsenals under a current partial cease-fire, he said.

But Peres, long an advocate of Israel yielding land for peace, said his government has no intention of reoccupying parts of Lebanon.

"We want to live in peace with the Lebanese. They are fine people," Peres said in a speech at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Peres was also to meet with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and national security adviser Stephen Hadley on a U.S. drive for a U.N. Security Council resolution for a lasting cease-fire.

He said Israel would be agreeable to a cease-fire the minute Hezbollah stops its cross-border attacks.

In a speech to the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Peres gave qualified endorsement to an international security force. "If the international community thinks the force will help, OK," Peres said.

But, in any event, "we will not permit Hezbollah to return to southern Lebanon and fire at us," he added.

Wow, what a beautiful example of propaganda! Are Nobel Peace Prize winners supposed to sound that bloodthirsty?

In any case, it sure doesn't sound like they're leaving Lebanon any time soon, Peres, because next we have: Israel pushes into Lebanon

And CNN broke in with something about how Israeli forces are near the Syrian border. Did Hezbollah suddenly evacuate to Syria or something?

Audit: Corruption in Iraq a 'Pandemic'

Well, here's some good news. We've finally managed to mold Iraq in our image; their government officials and workers are corrupted, too.

And finally, tonight (if this is, indeed, true): Iranian President rejects nuclear deadline

Various news agencies are reporting that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has officially rejected a UN Security Council resolution that would give Iran until the end of the month to suspend uranium enrichment, adding that Iran will instead continue to produce nuclear fuel.

Well, folks. The shit is about to hit the fan. End of the world/rapture in three weeks? I don't know...I guess we'll have to wait and see.
