Bush's Love For Lieberman Leaves GOP Searching Deep Within Their Own Hearts Over How Much Support They Should Offer

NYT: Republicans 'soul searching' over how much support to give Lieberman

Republicans are "soul searching" over how much support to give Connecticut's Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman as he runs for re-election as an independent after losing the primary to Ned Lamont, according to an article slated for Saturday's edition of The New York Times, RAW STORY has learned.

"National Republicans have all but given up hope for their senatorial candidate in Connecticut, and are soul searching over how much support to provide Joe Lieberman, who lost the Democratic primary to Ned Lamont," writes Anne E. Kornblut for the Times.

"Republicans increasingly view a Lieberman victory as beneficial to their national aims in a close mid-term election year," the article continues.

"Their deliberations in part reflect the weakness of a troubled Republican candidate, who has rejected calls to pull out of the race and is now polling at a mere 4 percent," Kornblut writes.

"Some Republicans, including the three embattled congressional candidates in the state, have even publicly come out in support of Lieberman," the article continues.
