Ever played a game called "Telephone"? It's where you take something someone else said and keep passing it along to other people. The idea is that they keep passing it along, and eventually, the message no longer resembles the original one.
This is kind of like that.
"We know who our first enemy is: America," he shouted before tearful mourners at a funeral Wednesday for 30 civilians killed by an Israeli airstrike on Monday. The white-turbaned sheikh led the crowd in a militant chant: "Death to America! Death to America!"
Even as Israel continues to pound Beirut's southern suburbs, and agreed Wednesday on plans to expand its four-week-old offensive as far as 18 miles into southern Lebanon, many here increasingly blame the US for its extensive military and political support for the Jewish state.
"Israel wants to stop the war, but America orders them to continue," the sheikh asserted later in an interview. "This is the American freedom?"
Remember, this is all for the "war on terror".
Russia Circulates Cease-Fire Resolution
Russia circulated a draft U.N. Security Council resolution Thursday that calls for a 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire in Lebanon, saying the crisis was reaching "catastrophic" proportions and was too urgent to wait for passage of a separate U.S.-French measure.
Uh oh...Russia's getting antsy. That's never good.
US Muslims bristle at Bush term "Islamic fascists"
Who can blame them? To our Muslim friends here in the US and everywhere else, I say this: during your bouts of anger, remember -- there are fascists in other religions (and non-religious groups), too. Just take a look at the leaders in our White House.
Bush seeks political gains from foiled plot
When isn't he using 9/11 for his own political gains?
US Democrats say plot shows Iraq war a diversion
Prominent Democrats said on Thursday a foiled plot in Britain to blow up U.S.-bound planes showed the Bush administration's pursuit of war in Iraq had diverted resources from the bigger threat of terrorism and made the danger worse.
With national security likely to play a crucial role in November's elections, some Democrats attacked President George W. Bush's justifications for the Iraq war and said the plot showed the terrorism threat was growing under his watch.
"Five years after 9-11, it is clear that our misguided policies are making America more hated in the world and making the war on terrorism harder to win," Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts said.
Sure, why not? The whole "war on terror" has been a diversion from the country's real problems, anyway.
Mercenary Jackpot
Bush says he doesn't like private armies and militias...so why is his administration paying a firm called Blackwater USA (heavily connected to the Republicans, by the way) to provide what it calls "diplomatic security" to our institutions and officials across the globe? Before the "war on terror," it was a small firm that was just starting out, and now, it's turned into a monster from all of the profits it's collected during the war.
