Attacks On Social Security And Medicare Version 2.0

Source: Reuters via Yahoo News

The Republicans can't seem to get over their failed attempts at privatizing Social Security and Medicare.

Firstly, true die-hard conservative Republicans don't believe in social programs, and they would rather see the people suffer, those who need these programs the most.

Secondly, there is a hidden agenda here.

The Bush Administration has tried to scare people into believing the changes in these programs are a necessary evil for years. I think the real motivation behind these pushed changes is not solvency but the fees (expected to be in the billions) that will be associated with hosting and maintenancing these accounts.

Whoever would win these contracts would be set to receive a gigantic golden egg from the programs guaranteed for years to come.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary-nominee Henry Paulson said on Tuesday he hoped to work with both Republicans and Democrats to tackle the "formidable challenge" that funding Social Security and Medicare pose to the U.S. budget in future years.

"I do believe there's no way we can solve these problems without addressing them on a bipartisan basis," Paulson told the Senate Finance Committee at a hearing on his nomination to succeed Treasury Secretary John Snow, who is leaving.

Although there is only about two and a half years left in the Bush administration, "I really do believe that we need to begin very seriously the process of addressing them because the earlier we step up to these issues the less costly will be the ultimate solution," Paulson said.

Here's a great article here on why privatizing social security could be a huge disaster.

Take a look at what the effects of allowing (privatizing) the insurance industry to control Medicare could be for low-income families and seniors.

I honestly hope the attempts to privatize and re-evaluate these programs continue to fail. Everything this administration tries to fix turns to shit, and many people could be hurting for a very long time if they mess with these programs. Look at the massive failures of FEMA and FDA, and you can easily see my point.
