And The Word Of The Day Is "Gitmo".

The news of today is that the Supreme Court ruled that Bush has overstepped his authority with the Guantanamo detainees. Which is pretty obvious, honestly, because after all these years, they've never seen their "due process" which everyone is supposed to be allowed to have. Except so-called "enemy combatants," apparently.

The Court has ruled that U.S. detainees--classified by the Bush Administration as "enemy combatants"--cannot be considered exempt from the Geneva Convention. The administration had attempted to argue that the "combatants" had no rights under U.S. or international law, or that only certain rights under each applied.

The Supreme Court disagreed.

The trials had been challenged by Salim Ahmed Hamdan, former bodyguard and limo driver for Osama bin Laden. Hamdan has been held at Guantanamo Bay for four years, eventually being charged with conspiracy. The court pointed out that there is no international law against conspiracy.

The ruling is not likely to result in the release of Hamdan, or other Guantanamo prisoners. In fact, it may result in longer detentions, while the United States attempts to put another system into place.

Yeah, Bush was already questioned about what would happened with Gitmo on CNN this morning. As usual, if his speechwriters aren't there to rescue him, then he quickly sinks because he's just not that good at answering anything related to important issues when he's forced to do so at a moment's notice.

So the next big question is, what good will this ruling do for the detainees? Most likely nothing will come from this. The White House will find another way to house their little "POW suicide watch" problem because even if Gitmo does close, Bush and the rest of his fellow White House clowns will stay the course, trying to convince Americans and the rest of the world that conspiracy is a real crime that can leave you in a hole without ever seeing sunlight again. Just because Bush is "the decider," and he decided your tin-foil-wearing ass needed to rot for just thinking bad thoughts about him.

The only thing good to come from this is that for this moment, at least, we can say the word "justice" without laughing...or crying.
