Yes, Frist, You Are Pandering.

Source: AP via Yahoo News

Bill Frist insists that he's trying to "save our values," not buy cheap political points with the conservative base. Because the most important issues in June are protecting the flag and gay marriage.

I see...get everyone so worked up about "good old traditional family values from the '50s" that they fail to see the group of people delegated into second-class citizens as their basic human rights are taken from them for simply not choosing the right gender to love. They'll be so busy thinking of "the good old days," that they won't even realize that a gay marriage ban is unconstitutional, no matter how they feel about "teh ghey plague".

I guess those same people won't mind when Congress decides that the only good position in sex is missionary, and everything else is deviant (yes, there's a group trying to do that). Or when pro-life groups take the next step by getting all forms of birth control banned, claiming falsely that they cause abortions. Hell, may as well do it all considering there's that new proposal to have all women of breeding age to be considered "pre-pregnant," thus taking away their rights.

Frist defended a constitutional ban on gay marriage because "that union between a man and a woman is the cornerstone of our society. It is under attack today." At work against such amendments to state constitutions are "activist judges, unelected activist judges," he said.

Wow. I don't know what they taught you in law school, Bill, but such an amendment would be unconstitutional. You're taking away someone's civil rights which, whether you like it or not, is a big no-no.

Nah, that's not pandering at all, is it?

Also, on flag burning...does he plan on getting rid of all burnings?

The United States Flag Code states: "The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferable by burning." Throughout America, volunteer organizations commonly carry out this duty as an act of community service, destroying old, worn, tattered, frayed, and/or faded Flags.

A lot of Boy Scouts carry out this tradition, every year. Will they be jailed along with other flag burners? Because, technically, if such a law is passed, then all who burn the flag, no matter what reason, would be subject to punishment.

Eh, I suppose Bill, along with his supporters, just conveniently forgot about that.
