The White House is trying to invoked the "state secrets" privilege to kill lawsuits filed over the NSA spying program.
This guy (Bush) uses his status as president to break the law and then the same status to derail investigations and lawsuits into his illegal activities.
Exactly how can the president be held accountable for breaking the law if federal judges keep allowing these flagrant abuses of power to continue to move forward?
(CBS/AP) The Bush administration asked federal judges in New York and Michigan to dismiss a pair of lawsuits filed over the National Security Agency's domestic eavesdropping program, saying litigation would jeopardize state secrets.
In legal papers filed late Friday, Justice Department lawyers said it would be impossible to defend the legality of the spying program without disclosing classified information that could be of value to suspected terrorists.
National Intelligence Director John Negroponte invoked the state secrets privilege on behalf of the administration, writing that disclosure of such information would cause "exceptionally grave damage" to national security.
There has to be a point when federal judges and Congress take a stand against this administration and quit allowing them to run roughshod over the law and Constitution. Until then, the White House will continue to resemble the lawless Wild West of Westerns, leaving those with the biggest guns and most intimidating power as the one with the power of the law.
Congress and Federal Courts continue to be nothing more than puppet branches of government until they make a stand. Otherwise, our government continues to be a broken, shattered image of its former self.
