UN: U.S. Must "Eradicate" Detainee Torture.

Source: Washington Post

The U.N. is talking about the current Bush administration, right? The same one who threatened to withhold the U.S. part of funding unless the U.N. was restructured via our plan to end corruption and make the body more efficient?

Yeah, this has about as much of a chance happening as does Bush speaking a sentence using proper English...and without stuttering, too.

GENEVA -- The U.S. must "eradicate" torture of detainees by its personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq, a U.N. watchdog says in the draft of a report to be released Friday.

The U.N. Committee Against Torture was presenting its conclusions from a hearing earlier this month into U.S. conduct.

"The state party should take firm measures to eradicate all forms of torture and ill treatment of detainees by its law enforcement personnel, civil or military, in Afghanistan and Iraq," the report says, according to a draft obtained by The Associated Press.

This is the very same administration that doesn't follow any U.S. laws. By what chance does anyone really think they give a damn about what the UN thinks?

I'm not condoning it, by any means. It's just that they don't believe the law applies to them.

Give it up, U.N., and quit wasting your time. Put some time and energy into something useful, like helping people in Africa (does Darfur ring any bells?)--something you actually can change.
