Post this under the "you have to be joking, right?" file.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) has decided to award Vice President Dick Cheney and former CIA Director Porter Goss with Congressional Distinguished Service Award.
The 411 on this award:
"The Congressional Distinguished Service Award was established to honor former Members of the House who have performed their duties on behalf of their constituents and the American people with such extraordinary distinction and selfless dedication as to merit special recognition."
I need to know something. Was Dennis Hastert under the influence of any illegal drugs when he made this announcement?
This is laughable, at best, and beyond a joke.
What are we rewarding these guys for again? Most criminal indictments? Most money made for special interests? Party loyalty among all going wrong?
I just don't see why these two deserve this honor or any other honor right now. Goss is getting ready to go through the federal trial process for Hookergate, and Cheney's fate may be sealed after the November elections in the form of impeachment.
I know these awards follow party lines, but picking these two is just beyond ridiculous.
Talk about denying the reality of the current political climate and situation. This is the equivalent of giving Bonnie and Clyde Humanitarian honors or the Nobel Peace Prize.
I just don't get the GOP mindset, most days.
Go figure?
