Captain Of Duke's Lacrosse Team Is Indicted.

Source: The New York Times

Dave Forker Evans was a good captain and leader of the Duke lacrosse team for all the wrong reasons.

Possible felony charges of rape, first-degree sexual offense, and kidnapping cannot be good for a college student's future job prospects.

A grand jury returned an indictment today against a third lacrosse player in the rape case that has raised racial and class tensions between elite Duke University and its hometown.

Dave Forker Evans, a team captain who lived in the house where a black woman says she was sexually assaulted by three white players during a party in March, was charged with rape, first-degree sexual offense and kidnapping. Mr. Evans, who is from Washington, D.C., was indicted on the same charges as two of his fellow teammates, Reade Seligmann, 20, of Essex Fells, N.J., and Collin Finnerty, 19, of Garden City, N.Y., who surrendered on April 18.

I honestly feel sorry for the woman whom they are attacking as a way to strengthen their defense case. Why attack her constantly if you are so innocent? What, exactly, do you have to preemptively attack in the media?

This approach sounds like someone spinning his guilt, not proclaiming his innocence.

This case vividly shows that race and social class are still major issues in America. In many ways, racially, things in this country have never changed regardless of the falsehoods and illusions that people try to spin you with that "things are going so well" rhetoric. If you're able to look up above the bullshit, you would see a much different picture than the one being painted: one of people constantly being divided and being treated differently because of the color of their skin or the language they speak.

That is the real, ugly world which lies outside my door.

Not this fairytale wonderland that just doesn't exist.
