Poor Robert Zoellick. No wonder he wants to leave. Unless you're one of Bush's "good old boys" or you can call Texas your home, then you have no chance in hell of getting promoted in DC.
Case in point:
President Bush is leaning toward having his old friend Donald Evans take over the Treasury Department, according to media reports.
The New York Times on Saturday became the latest media outlet to report that the former Commerce Department secretary and long-time Bush friend from Texas was a leading contender to succeed John Snow, who has indicated he wishes to step down by early July.
The Wall Street Journal online was first to report that Evans had emerged as the front-runner. A Republican with close ties to the White House also told Reuters on Friday that he believed Evans was the leading candidate.
Evans, 60, is a former Texas oilman like Bush and has long had a tight relationship with the president. He chaired Bush's 2000 presidential campaign, expanding a role he played when Bush successfully ran for governor of Texas in 1994 and 1998.
There you go! Another fine example of cronyism!
