Bush is still going ahead with the plan to nominate Hayden as Goss' successor. Damn, is Goss' seat even cold yet?
And one big "jumpin' Jehosaphat!" to John McCain. Would you quit your damn flip-flopping for votes already? Everyone knows. What respect I had for you, John, is really starting to wane.
"In all due respect to my colleagues -- and I obviously respect their views -- General Hayden is really more of an intelligence person than he is an Air Force officer," McCain said on "Face the Nation" on CBS. "I think that we should also remember that there had been other former military people who have been directors of the CIA."
And from the "I can't believe he actually said this" file:
White House counselor Dan Bartlett said Hayden would be the fifth CIA chief in uniform. "He has been viewed as a non-comformist and an independent thinker," Bartlett said.
Yeah, he's quite the non-conformist, really. As Ben Franklin once noted, only idiots have ideas like this (a statement once made by General Hayden):
"I told them that free people always had to decide where to draw the line between their liberty and their security. I noted that the attacks would almost certainly push us as a nation more toward security."
Ahem. ONCE AGAIN, Ben Franklin said it best: "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."
Where in the hell are the men like Ben, these days?
