Justices Reject Gitmo Detainees' Appeal, "FREE" Men Held In Limbo

Qassim v. Bush, 05-892

The Supreme Court decided to "wash its hands clean" of an obvious mistake--two Chinese Muslims who were mistakenly captured as enemy combatants more than four years ago who are still being held at Gitmo.

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday from two Chinese Muslims who were mistakenly captured as enemy combatants more than four years ago and are still being held at the U.S. prison in Cuba.

The men's plight has posed a dilemma for the Bush administration and courts. Previously, a federal judge said the detention of the ethnic Uighurs in Guantanamo Bay is unlawful, but that there was nothing federal courts could do. Lawyers for the two contend they should be released, something the Bush administration opposes, unless they can go to a country other than the United States.

A year ago, the U.S. military decided that Abu Bakker Qassim and A'Del Abdu al-Hakim are not "enemy combatants" as first suspected after their 2001 arrests in Pakistan. They were captured and shipped to Guantanamo Bay along with hundreds of other suspected terrorists.

Just a gigantic case of "FUBAR" here.

These guys cannot go back to China, or they will be tortured or killed. No other country will allow these guys entry right now. The Supreme Court will not take the case because then it makes the Bush Administration look like the big screw-up we all know it is. Also, it would not shine a compelling light on this so-called "war on terror".

Sorry, gentlemen...this is Bush's America. They do no wrong--even when people's lives are at stake. Kind of like yours.

Two men, without a country, stuck in Bush/Neo-Con-created chaos.

These innocent men have somehow fallen through the cracks, and no one seems to give a damn. How sad.

I would swear that someone once told me this is a free and democratic country? So please explain to me, using the plight of the above men, how that remains true today?

It's OK--you really can't. My point, exactly....
