Tom Delay has decided to resign, saying that he thinks he could win re-election, but it would be a tough battle that would cost him a lot of money and get really nasty in the process.
Gee, I wonder why?
I'm not sorry to see him go because I hate crooked politicians (on either side of the fence). I am amused at his notion that he could win re-election if he wanted to run again. Who would vote for someone they know who was involved in a huge, national scandal?
Of course, according to The Galveston County Daily News, he's being the better man by dropping from the race because he wouldn't want the voters to have to spend the election race watching the nastiness pour out, and he can supposedly be more effective outside of the Capitol. OK, Tom. If you say so.
The NPR has some audio input on Delay's resignation and the future of his seat which you can listen to here.
Also, the Associated Press has a "Tom Delay Events Chart" in chronological order from when he was first elected in 1984. If you'd like to refresh your memory, you can do so here.
